Garden and Henrico Christmas Mother Work Together to Provide New Bicycle Helmets for Needy Children
RICHMOND, VA – While bicycles are often donated as holiday gifts for needy children, helmets usually are not. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and the Henrico Christmas Mother Program are working together to raise awareness of the need and to collect new children’s bicycle helmets for the holidays.
Throughout the month of September, new helmets dropped off at the Garden will be donated to the Henrico Christmas Mother, a nonprofit providing more than 1,600 families with food, new clothes, toys, books and other gift items during the holiday season.
2015 Henrico Christmas Mother Beverly Cocke says the program is thrilled to be partnering with the Garden. “It is our long-held policy that no bicycle leaves the warehouse without a helmet. We applaud Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden for promoting bicycle safety and helping us ensure all children’s bicycles are accompanied with a shiny new helmet.”
Helmets can be brought to the Garden during regular hours (daily 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and when the Garden has extended hours during the UCI Road World Championships (open till 8 p.m. September 21 – 25.)
