Towers in the Garden

by Heather Veneziano, Children’s Garden Horticulturist, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Potato tower

Our completed potato tower. We planted three layers of potatoes using straw and compost.

In the Children’s Garden we’re always trying to find ways to plant more vegetables. This we year we thought we would try potato towers. We planted a different cultivar in each tower, Solanum tuberosum ‘Russian Banana’ and Solanum tuberosum ‘Dark Red Norland.’

Come by and take a look!
