The Spring Plant Sale is Just Around the Corner
by Brenda Brown, PR & Marketing Intern, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
It’s never just another day at the Garden — we’re always working on another way to help you enjoy plants. Wondering what’s up next? Our annual Spring Plant Sale! Our volunteers and staff have been preparing for months growing the plants we’ll sell, organizing enriching demos and coordinating a wide array of specialty plant vendors — count them, there are 27! Plus a few will offer garden art and furniture, rain chains, rain barrels and other one-of-a-kind garden accessories.
Additionally, this year the Garden is partnering with the Henrico Master Gardeners provide educational sessions on green topics. Join in as we learn about starting plants from seeds, vermicomposting and more. On April 30th Master Gardeners will provide hands-on activities for children of all ages through the Junior Master Gardener program. Plus plenty of Master Gardener will be on-hand to help with garden-related questions or help you if you need advice related to plants you are purchasing or about problematic planting areas in your home garden.
When you stop by the Bloemendaal tent, make sure you enter your name into the drawing for a chance to win a potting bench, hand-crafted by our own “Garden Geezers” or one of two potted container plants. In the Garden Shop everything is 15 percent off, plus we’ll have another drawing for a $25 gift certificate.
Remember, bring a wagon or cart to carry your purchases, wear comfy shoes, and enjoy picking out some new treats for your garden.
Henrico Master Gardener Program: Do you enjoy gardening and sharing your gardening knowledge with others? The Henrico Master Gardener program may be for you! The Henrico Master Gardeners are volunteers who extend the educational reach of Virginia Cooperative Extension throughout the Henrico County. Master Gardeners complete a 50-hour training course covering topics such as plant propagation, woody and herbaceous plants, vegetable gardening, soils, insects, plant diseases and much more.
