Spinning Wheel Demonstration
This event is cancelled due to snow.
See how spinning wheels and handspindles work! Included with regular Garden admission. No registration required, just drop in.
Garden volunteers Judith Towers, Becky Blake and Jan Glass will demonstrate handspinning and show fibers dyed with plants, some of them from plants grown at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in a family-friendly educational event.
Touch natural fibers such as wool, angora, cotton and silk. See the dried flowers, nuts, leaves, bark, and other natural dye sources and examine them up close. Learn the history of handspinning and natural dyeing, how handspindles were used before spinning wheels evolved, and about modern spinning wheels as well as antique wheels. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions.
Location: Lora Robins Library in the Kelly Education Center
