Continue to develop your botanical drawing and composition skills using color theory and exercises that reinforce botanical accuracy. Using a plant specimen of your choosing, explore painting techniques such as dry brush or watercolor washes that enhance your individual style while remaining true to the fundamental principles of botanical drawing. Put it all together: sketch, compose, and execute a finished piece in the medium of your choice.

Botanical Illustration Certificate Student Pre-requisites: Introduction to Drawing, Intermediate Drawing and Introduction to Watercolor for Botanical Illustration.

General Public Pre-requisites: This is not a beginning class. Some drawing and painting experience is required to make this a satisfying experience. Please note that if you do not have prior experience with the botanical art discipline, it may be different from what you are familiar with.

About the instructor

Margaret Saylor is a nationally known botanical artist and instructor. She is also the editor/designer of the American Society of Botanical Artists’ The Botanical Artist journal. She earned a Certificate in Botanical art and Illustration, with distinction, from the New York Botanical Garden.
