MASTERING BOTANICAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING WITH LIGHT AND COLOR

Master essential botanical watercolor techniques that will elevate your botanical art to a new level! An awareness of light and color lies at the core of successful botanical watercolor painting. When used proficiently, they can reveal the essence of your plant subject. This workshop is your opportunity to explore and play with the nuances of both light and color. As you develop these skills, you begin to capture the forms, hidden textures and details that will make your painting sing! Using both wet and dry watercolor techniques with a simple, limited palette, you can become a master of light and color!

GES: BI, 15, elective*

*This class provides 15 hours of elective credit for the Botanical Illustration Certificate Program.  This is an intermediate to advanced level course.  Enrolled botanical Illustration Certificate Students must have completed Introduction to Watercolor for Botanical Illustration to enroll. Non-certificate students are also welcome!

Mary DillonABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Capturing the essence of a plant with its sensuality and frailty defines the work of award winning Irish artist, Mary Dillon. Mary has a fascination for botanical art as a personal process while at the same time striving for excellence in her art practice. Her painting, ‘Tulipa Black Parrot’ was chosen as the signature image for the recent National Gallery of Ireland exhibition and subsequent publication by Patricia Butler, Drawn From Nature – the flowering of Irish Botanical Art. Her work belongs in the collection of Dr. Shirley Sherwood and in the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh.
