Nature
Journaling

Make time over the course of a week to beginning a simply illustrated journal to chronicle your love of gardens. Whether here at Lewis Ginter, at home, or in your travels, your journaling practice captures the magic of what you see —natural elements as well as landscaping features such as pathways, gates, and fences. This uniquely formatted class meets twice by video and involves independent work in your journal at Lewis Ginter or in the location( s) of your choice. Also included are individual consults with our instructor, who can help you tailor your journal to meet your personal objectives.

All interested in journaling are welcome.  Purchase a complete garden journal kit from the Garden Shop for $24 (available September 1) These kits are now SOLD OUT or use the supply list provided. Instructions to access the Garden during the week between sessions are sent after registration. A video of each session will be available for a short period after your class to help refresh your memory.

This is an online class conducted via Zoom. Registrants will receive Garden passes and can meet with Lynn in the Garden during the week between sessions. Dates and times to be shared after registration.

About the Instructor

Although not a gardener herself, Lynn Wilson appreciates those who do — as well as the fruits of their labors!  She’s quite excited about her new class, about exploring gardens more deeply, and about finding ways for us all to interact safely as we do. Since discovering the joy of nature journaling in 2014, this retired adult educator has shared this timely practice with hundreds of students, almost all of whom introduce themselves as “ incapable of drawing a stick.” To this, Lynn says, “Happily, artistic skill is not the emphasis of journaling, although playing with art supplies adds to the fun.” A voracious student of natural history and a certified Virginia Master Naturalist, Lynn rambles and birds in the Chickahominy flatwoods east of Richmond. She encourages you to join her and have fun with art supplies as you enjoy the great out-of-doors.
