Step into the enchanting world of Honeybee Mythology in this immersive class set amidst the natural beauty of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. Explore the myths, folklore, and sacred symbolism of honeybees across cultures, from ancient Egypt to indigenous traditions. Participants will journey through the captivating artist installation, Conversations with Bees, part of the Homes & Habitats Exhibit, while uncovering the deep-rooted connections between bees and human civilization. The experience culminates in a honey tasting, where you’ll sample different varieties of honey to explore flavor, texture, aroma, and origin. Register now for an afternoon of storytelling, science, and sweetness as we celebrate the magical role of honeybees around the world.

About the Instructors

Hollee Freeman, PhD, is an award-winning and nationally certified educator who has worked for over three decades in K-12 schools, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in educational administration.

Dr. Freeman has shared her work around creating space for learning in STEM contexts as a TEDxRVA and Creative Mornings RVA speaker, in addition to a host of other venues.

Dr. Freeman is a beekeeper and gardener who uses her creative and professional endeavors to create space and cultivate learning experiences for adults and students. She is the owner and operator of Freeman Educational & Business Consulting LLC, Hollee Freeman Photography, and the Hollee Freeman Foundation. Dr. Freeman is also the curator of City Bees RVA, an ecological and experienced-based program focused on environmental sustainability and honeybees.
