HERBALISM 101
HISTORY OF TISANES & TINCTURES

This workshop will discuss the history of herbalism in Indeginous communities and how to take action in support of your own health by bringing plant medicine into service. Dig into an exploration of plants, how they have been supportive to wellness for generations, and the safe, accessible tools of holistic herbalism. Class will include an herb walk around the garden, discussion about plants that are commonly used for medicine, and sampling for multiple preparations.

Our Garden continues to follow CDC recommendations and state guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Properly worn masks are strongly encouraged for indoor class participants regardless of vaccination status. The Garden reserves the right to implement additional safety measures. Any updates will be communicated prior to class, if possible.

Nitika Achalam Herbalism 101: Oils, Salves, & TopicalsAbout the instructor

Nitika Achalam is a Holistic Wellness Educator who uses her skills as a Clinical Herbalist, Reiki Master, and Yoga Therapist to inform knowledge sharing. Nitika studied Anthropology at Virginia Commonwealth University with a focus on how ancient cultures used plant medicine and alternative remedies to prevent and treat disease. Nitika passionately applies over two decades of education and practice to support her clients’ physical and energetic wellness. Nitika is the Executive Director of Project Yoga Richmond, a practitioner at A Brighter Birth Collective, and the resident herbalist and farmer at Baehouse.
