Crossing KidQuest off of My Bucket List

Clue #1 Shrub Rose

Many schools do not start back until after Labor Day, marking this the last week of summer.  I’ve been interning at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden this summer, and I’ve had a bucket list of activities that I wanted to do.  Like the saying goes, there’s no time like the present, and so I participated in Kid Quest.

Kid Quest

Kid Quest is a scavenger hunt that takes you through a section of the garden, and the brochure can be picked up at the Robins Visitors Center.  It is updated several times a year, and so the theme and clues vary by season.  I got to explore the Rose Garden, which blooms most of the year.  It actually has two peak blooming times — spring AND fall. (Note to self, save the date for Rose Fest in October!)

One thing that I enjoyed was that the brochure gave clear directions on how to find each stop.  There are six stops and each rose is clearly marked, which helped me make sure I was admiring the right one.  (I’m still rusty on identifying plants).

It is a perfect activity for children and families to explore the Garden.  While I searched for each clue, I found myself admiring the flowers even more.  Instead of passing through, this hunt makes you stop and admire.  Also once you finish you can return to Admissions to receive a button, which is a nice momento.  As summer comes to a close, this is a great activity to come out and smell the roses!
