“Cheers to Art!” Popping up in April
By Melissa Miller, Stewardship Coordinator, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
“Nothing is more the child of art than a garden.” Sir Walter Scott
A Garden is a not only a work of art itself but a canvas. This spring the Garden’s canvas will bloom with the beauty of Fräbel’s glass and works by local artists. Planning is underway for our inaugural Cheers to Art! event which will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30pm at the Garden. The event will feature a silent auction with more than 50 pieces of local art, live entertainment and a pass to stroll the gardens and enjoy the breathtaking Fräbel glass exhibit, plus cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
Cheers to Art! is a toast to the creativity and the art of beauty, learning and growth of Lewis Ginter and our ever-popular Children’s Garden. Last year, over 42,000 children participated in guided programs and investigative play in the Children’s Garden. As this number increases annually, we will need to expand our facilities to welcome them all.
Proceeds from Cheers to Art! will benefit the enhancements and future improvements of the Children’s Garden, and help support the Garden’s mission to enlighten, inspire, engage and advocate for the improvement of our community. All proceeds from the auction and ticket sales will go to these programs.
The event will be hosted by the Garden’s Board of Associates, and this year’s co-chairs, Stephen Wesson, Champe Granger and Myrf Bowry, and supported by many wonderful sponsors including media sponsor, Style Weekly.
You can check out the artists and sponsors, preview artwork and purchase tickets online at the Cheers to Art! website. We will also have an event page on Facebook in the beginning of March, please invite your friends.
Put Cheers to Art! on your calendar for April 29th – the excitement is building and we expect the event to sell out, so make sure you buy your ticket early.
