Botanical Cyanotype: Studio Two Three Exhibition

If you love plants and art, this botanical cyanotype exhibition may be for you! We are proud to partner with Studio Two Three, a  Richmond’s non-profit workspace that provides artists the space, tools and knowledge they need to make their voices heard, in an exciting project to create cyanotypes, or photographic blueprints, of plant materials and botanical matters sourced from Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.

Cyanotype is a 175-year-old monochrome photographic printing process which gives a distinct cyan-blue color. Anna Atkins, a British scientist, brought the process into the realm of photography by creating a limited series of cyanotype books that documented ferns and other plant life. Unlike other printing process, with cyanotypes, no dark room is needed, ultraviolet light or direct sunlight will do the magic.
