Instagram Contest Winners
Each year, it becomes more and more difficult to choose our Bflies Instagram winner. Is it possible that you guys get better and better each year? Indeed, I think it is. Of all our Instagram contests, our #Bflies Instagram contest always has the most entries and interest. I don’t know if it’s the great prize package that goes to our Grand Prize winner (valued at over $800,) or the fact that it runs for nearly six months, but you all outdid yourself with the beautiful photos you posted! I couldn’t keep track of the exact number of submissions, but its easily in the thousands.
First up, the People’s Choice Award: We asked our Facebook fans to vote on their favorite image from the collage above. The winner, Tabita Johansson, aka @pokaqueenofrandom gets a Richmond Region Tourism attractions pass and five tickets to the Garden. Johansson is actually living in Sweden now, so she plans to give the passes to her stateside friends. The competition was very tight, with several photos getting a considerable number of votes. Do you sense a theme here? Can there be too many good photos?
Second up: Our Butterflies Choice award goes to an image that helps raise awareness about the importance of butterflies and other pollinators.
We let the Butterflies LIVE! butterfly curators choose the winner for this one. They loved the image of a little boy studying an owl butterfly (top row, third image from left). Our winner, Jason Langberg, aka @GinterGram on Instagram, wins a Richmond Region Tourism attractions pass and five tickets to come back to enjoy the Garden. We promise we weren’t biased by his Instagram profile: “My family loves Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens! I post photos of our visits here. For more information about the Gardens, visit www.lewisginter.org.”
Lastly, our Grand Prize winner. As I mentioned, the prize package was valued at over $800, including:
- A 1-year Family Membership to the Garden.
- A Supernova Membership from the Science Museum of Virginia, four Dome passes and four guest passes.
- Twelve passes to the Garden. Yes, bring your 11 closest friends!
- Two complimentary tickets to the Richmond Symphony.
- A Hero4 Silver GoPro camera.
Congratulations to Grand Prize winner Holland Beiler aka @hootinholl from Virginia Beach. “My boyfriend, Joe Hebler, was the master behind the shot,” she says. You can follow him at @joeyheb on Instagram. It was Hebler and Beiler’s first trip to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. As you can see there’s a bit of serendipity in the shot. Butterfly whisperer? Butterfly mustache? What do you think?
