Fairy House Gardens + Mega Sale on Holiday Items in the Garden Shop Makes the Fall Plant Sale a Must-do Weekend Event
by Jonah Holland, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator
Garden volunteers are resourceful. They love what they do, and they do it with pride. I hate to say it, but many of them know alot more about plants than I do. Often, they are the ones I go to with questions about a plant, well at least at the plant sale. Did you know that the Garden’s Bloemendaal Tent at the Fall Plant Sale is completely volunteer-run? In addition, we’ll have over 25 specialty vendors on site.
Volunteer Ellen Edmonds used her creativity this week to recycle a former Dominion GardenFest of Lights fairy house into a demo garden for miniature conifers and other trees. Have you ever seen a Ginko tree that will grow to become only 2-feet tall in 10 years? Cool! I never even knew they existed. If you have a sunny spot in your yard and you are looking for a unique garden feature, this could be it. The miniature specimen include traditional bonsai-style conifers as well as others plants.
The plant sale opens at 10 a.m. tomorrow and you can be sure there will be a line of excited plant-lovers waiting to get in. For a complete list of vendors
In addition, in the Garden Shop we will have a huge selection of holiday merchandise on sale 30-50 percent off, and throughout the plant sale. Garden Members receive an extra 15 percent on all purchases during the plant sale (including holiday sale merchandise) , so this is a great time to start your holiday shopping!
Don’t forget, bring your carts and wagons to make shopping even easier!
