March through April
Early to late blooming daffodils and tulips extend the spring bloom-time as long as possible. Daffodils begin in March, while tulips tend to peak in early to mid-April. Weather greatly affects bloom times, so please check before you visit if you are coming to see a particular bloom.
Mid to Late March
Explore the Cherry Tree Walk around Sydnor Lake, featuring several varieties of flowering cherries and companion plantings for year-round interest
Early April
Before tree leaves are fully unfurled, search for spring ephemerals along woodland paths. Virginia Bluebell (Mertensia virginica) are always a favorite. Although the ephemerals are fleeting, there’s beauty and interest along the Garden’s woodland paths year-round.
Late April through Early May
Look for pops of color throughout the Garden from our extensive azalea collection. Many are set in scenic vistas, including around the Lace House, an intricate white pergola hand-carved in 1800s.
Early May
Wander paths along the water’s edge to see the Garden’s exquisite iris collection.
Mid-May
The Garden has an extensive collection of herbaceous and tree peonies in a number of garden areas, including Asian Valley and in the Grace Arents Garden, a Victorian-style garden in front of historic Bloemendaal House. These beauties usually bloom around Mother’s Day.
