Nature Photography Classes
Join nationally recognized nature photographers in classes to sharpen your observation skills and your digital photography know-how. Explore a garden setting after dark or on a lovely day with your single-lens reflex (SLR) digital camera and learn to use editing tools to polish your images. Enhance your smartphone photography skills in a variety of workshops.
Classes are offered in-person, as synchronous (live) online programs, or using hybrid methods with both in-person and virtual content. Class delivery methods are denoted next to each listing as VIRTUAL, IN-PERSON, or HYBRID.

NEW! Editing Photos with Adobe Lightroom Classic | September 7, 14 | IN-PERSON
Adobe Lightroom Classic is the premier software for photograph editing. It is very powerful, but intimidating to those who are new to it. In this course, photographer Tom Hennessy will cover the basics of Lightroom using botanical images with demonstrations and hands-on practice. We will cover importing, editing and exporting finished photographs. This course is designed for photographs taken with a DSLR or Mirrorless camera. Students must have access to a laptop with Adobe Lightroom installed.
Smarter Smartphone Photography | October 5 | IN-PERSON
Have you ever looked through a glossy magazine and thought to yourself, “I wish I could take photos like that?” Well, you can! With your smartphone! The technology behind smartphone cameras has advanced to the point that professional photographers often use them to produce the photos in publications you admire. Despite these advancements, many people continue to be disappointed in their own smartphone photography. That’s where instructor and professional photographer, Allen Moore, can help!
Photography in the Garden with Tom Hennessy | October 12 | IN-PERSON
Many of the beautiful images in Garden publications, Instagram and on our webpage are by photographer Tom Hennessy. Join him for this workshop to polish your own skills. Following a brief introduction, join Tom in the Garden to photograph spring flowers, foliage and landscapes. Spend your lunch hour in the classroom editing your photos and finish the day sharing your results with the class.
Nighttime Photography featuring Gardenfest | November 18 | IN-PERSON
Learn how to take beautiful, professional-looking photos of the magical lights that abound this holiday, using our GardenFest light displays as your laboratory! Join professional photographer, Tom Hennessy, for this hands-on nighttime photography workshop where you’ll sharpen your skills at capturing illuminated objects and landscapes. You’ll be practicing new techniques, and by the end of the evening, gain skills to photograph other illuminated objects like city skylines, moonlit evenings and more!
