Rice
The staple food of a majority of world cuisines, especially in the East, Southeast and South of Asia, Rice (Oryza sativa) is an edible starchy cereal grain and grass plant belonging to the family Poaceae. Join Assistant Horticulturist Menaka Dewasinghe as she discusses the nutritional benefits of different varieties of rice, different forms, cooking methods with tips to increase the nutritional value, and how to increase aroma and flavor during the cooking process. Learn how to create easy and tasty rice based recipes including milk rice, sweet, sour, mixed rice, and porridge. Watch as Menaka demonstrates how to prepare some of these rice dishes and sample the finished products. Menaka will also cover rice flour based products. Gain a new appreciation for rice and an eagerness to add more to your diet.
