Organic Vegetable Gardening

Learn the basics of gardening the earth-friendly way! Michael Partusch, horticulturist for the Kroger Community Kitchen Garden, discusses how to ‘go green’ with your garden, including soil amendments, plant maintenance and pest control. Michael focuses on growing vegetables in our area, with an emphasis on heirloom varieties that grow well in the Richmond area. Take home a packet of seeds to start your spring garden.

*This class offers 3 hours of elective credit toward the Garden Education Series: Gardening and Garden Design Certificate.  Non-certificate students welcome.

About the instructor

Michael Partusch is currently the Sustainable Agriculture Horticulturist at the Garden, taking the lead on maintaining the Kroger Community Kitchen Garden, demonstrating best practices and helping grow fresh organic produce for FeedMore.  Michael brings over 20 years of horticulture experience including seeding/propagation, design & installation and education.  His favorite perennial is Echinacea purpurea, favorite annual is Tithonia and favorite vegetable is Anaheim Chili Pepper.  He is passionate about planting for pollinators and connecting people to the dirt beneath their feet from seed to harvest.
