With many people concerned about the carbon footprint of commercially produced flowers or simply trying to save money, there is growing interest in cutting gardens. In this virtual class, Lewis Ginter horticulturist Laurie McMinn discusses how to plan and plant a cutting garden that is attractive, colorful, fragrant, and useful!

Cutting Garden ClassGES: HL, 1.5, elective*

This class offers 1.5 hours of elective credit toward the Garden Education Series: Gardening and Garden Design Certificate.  Non-certificate students welcome.

 

 

 

 

 

Meet the instructor

Laurie McMinn is the horticulturist for Lewis Ginter’s Louise Cochrane Rose Garden. Previously she was the Historic Grounds Supervisor at Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg.  This is a historic site with antique roses dating back to the 1500s. She also worked for Saunders Brothers Nursery for 15 years, developing and managing their growth regulator program for annuals and perennials in 85 greenhouses.  She is a VNLA Certified Horticulturist, and is an officer in the American Boxwood Society.  She maintains an extensive cutting garden at her own house.
